Principal's Message

Westglen is excited to be a Host site for Alberta Culture Days!

Westglen school is holding a two day celebration focusing on Ukrainian and Aboriginal cultures in partnership with Alberta Culture Days.  We are excited to work with Tryzub School of Ukrainian Dance and School Director, Dean Mackedenski, Westglen Aboriginal Liaison, Debbie Semeniuk and her family, Jennifer Ward from the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Education Team, the Westmount Community League, and the Westglen Parent Association.

We will be hosting the "Kairos Blanket Activity" on Thursday, September 29th at 8:45 AM, outside on our soccer field.  All members of the public are welcome to attend.

On Friday, September 30th, we will be hosting a "Round Dance" at 8:45 AM led by Elders.  Also on Friday, September 30th, at 1:30 PM and 6:30 PM,  Westglen students will perform various Ukrainian dances culminating from the Ukrainian Dance Artist in Residency.

We are excited for the opportunity to share Aboriginal and Ukrainian Cultures with the public!

Westglen School is a strong, vibrant, community school rich in history.  We are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive and challenging learning environment in which all students experience academic success and personal growth.  At Westglen, students receive balanced educational programming that promotes lifelong learning and encourages them to become caring, respectful, and responsible citizens who make effective contributions to society.

Westglen School offers Middle Years IB specifically to grade 6 students.  The Middle Years IB program fosters the development of active learners and internationally minded young people who can inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The Grade 6 IB projects involve the entire school and as a result students at all grade levels develop creative, critical and reflective thinking skills.

At Westglen, we believe that parent partnership is the cornerstone of a successful education.  We invite you to participate, alongside your children and our staff, as we create a welcoming and stimulating learning environment that will enable our children to acquire the competencies they need to become active and responsible citizens in an increasingly globalized world.

Westglen will offer Dance as part of our regular school programming for 2016-2017.  This exciting addition will complement our daily physical education programming.  Every student will receive one class of dance instruction per week with our dance specialist and teacher Mrs. Andreychuk.

Yours In Education,

Cory MacTaggart
