    Community

Westglen School is an elementary school serving the Westmount community.

Westglen School and Westmount Community League have a strong partnership.  Through this collaboration we are able to facilitate events that provide enrichment through the arts, recreation and nature such as: Alberta Culture Days, Winter Family Skate Night, Shop the Hall, and our Community Garden.  These events draw the community together through various volunteer opportunities.

"What I love most about Westmount is the neighbourhood connections, the opportunity for authentic relationships, the love of nature and the intergenerational experiences."  ~ Westmount resident

    Westmount...a community for everyone

The Wesmount Community League was formed in 1919.  Westmount is one of the oldest community leagues in Edmonton.  The neighbourhood was developed originally in the 1910s as a professional neighbourhood catering to young people. Prior to the end of World War II, one in four of the current residences were constructed. Another quarter of the current residences were constructed between the end of World War II and 1960.  Westmount has a rich heritage with the city of Edmonton and there are many, many past and current residents have made a significant difference in the community and the city at large.  The history of the Westmount area, from the 1800s on, can be read in “Edmonton’s West Side Story,” available from the 124 Street and Area BRZ.

For more information about the Westmount Community League please visit their website.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome tatawâw

Westglen School is a strong, vibrant, community school.  We are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive and challenging learning environment in which all students experience academic, athletic, and artistic success and personal growth.  Our students learn to show their PRIDE: Be Positive, Be Responsible, Be Inclusive, Be Diplomatic, Be Efficient!

Westglen School offers Middle Years IB specifically to Grade 6 students.  The Middle Years IB program fosters the development of active learners and internationally minded young people who can inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. The Grade 6 IB projects involve the entire school and as a result students at all grade levels develop creative, critical and reflective thinking skills.

At Westglen, we believe that parent partnership is the cornerstone of a successful education.  Together, we will be able to provide wonderful learning opportunities for our students. We encourage you to connect with your child's teacher to see how you are able to support our learning either at the school, on field trips, at community events, or at home.

Westglen offers Dance as part of our Physical Education and Wellness programming and Drama as part of our Language Arts programming.  Every Division 2 student will have one class of dance instruction per week with our dance specialist, and every student from Grades 1 to 6 will have one class of drama per week from our drama specialist.

Come experience all that Westglen has to offer!

We look forward to working with you and your family.
